Europe: New harmonised CLP classifications proposals

Harmonised classification: substance proposals

The Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC), which draws up ECHA’s opinions related to the risks of substances to human health and the environment in the REACH and CLP processes (European implementation of the GHS system), has published on ECHA website the harmonised classifications and related dossier that have been proposed for the following substances:

  • Thymol (EC 201-944-8, CAS 89-83-8); it is included in Annex VI of CLP with Index 604-032-00-1 and the following harmonised classification: Acute Tox. 4, H302; Skin Corr. 1B, H314; Aquatic Chronic 2, H412. The classification proposal forwarded by Spain foresees the addition of the classifications as Eye Dam. 1, H318; Skin Sens.1, H 317, STOT SE 3, H336 and the modification of the Aquatic Chronic classification from Cat. 2 to Cat. 3 (H412).
  • Eugenol (EC 202-589-1; CAS 97-53-0); Spain has proposed to include this substance in Annex VI with the following harmonized classification: Acute Tox. 4, H302; Skin Irrit. 2, H315; Eye Irrit. 2, H319; Skin Sens. 1A, H317; STOT SE 3, H336; Aquatic Chronic 2, H411.
  • Cinnamaldehyde (EC 203-213-9, CAS 104-55-2); Netherlands has proposed to include this substance in Annex VI with the following harmonized classification: Eye Irrit. 2, H319; Skin Sens. 1A, H317; Aqutic Acute 1, H400; Aquatic Chronic 2, H411.
  • Benzobicyclon (EC 605-078-5, CAS 156963-66-5); Malta has proposed to include this substance in Annex VI with the following harmonized classification: Aquatic Acute 1, H400 with multiplicative factor M=100 ; Aquatic Chronic 1, H410 with multiplicative factor M=100
