The European Union published the Commission Regulation (EU) 2016/1776 of October 6, 2016 amending Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the use of sucralose (E 955) as a flavour enhancer in chewing gum with added sugars or polyols.

The new limit imposed for this category is 1200 mg/kg, and it should be considered that if E 950, E 951, E 955, E 957, E 959 and E 961 are used in combination in chewing gum, the maximum level for each is reduced proportionally.

This amendment should enter into force on October 27, 2016.

Steviol glycosides specification

The European Commission with the Commission Regulation (EU) 2016/1814 of 13 October 2016 re-defined the specification for the additives E960 Steviol glycosides.
The changes done includes the introduction of the CAS number to the single components of the Steviol glycosides and defines the range of the final product of at least 95% of all the 11 components in any combination and ratio (before it was 75 % but considering only stevioside and/or rebaudioside A).

All the changes for the Food Additives of the European Union will be found shortly in our Regdata database.
