FSSAI Publishes a Detailed Guideline for those Seeking Information on the System of Product Approval

The Indian food regulator (FSSAI), having received mixed effect from the stakeholders regarding the introduction of the system of “Product approvals” has published a comprehensive guideline on its website regarding the same. Furthermore, the guideline elaborates upon topics such as:  

  1. Definitions of vertical & horizontal standards.
  2. The stand of the regulator with respect to granting product approvals for ‘Proprietary foods’.
  3. The categories of food products that warrant product approvals.
  4. Common concerns of the industry brought forth before the regulator during product approvals.
  5. Procedure adopted by the regulator for the development and implementation of new standards.
