Ice Creams from Belgium Detected with Bacteria Exceeding Legal Limit

On May 6, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department noted that the total bacteria counts of four samples of Glacio ice-cream, imported from Belgium, were found exceeding the legal limit. The CFS has sealed all products of this batch and will continue to follow up on this case, preventing entering into Hong Kong market.

Under the Frozen Confections Regulation (Cap 132 AC), each gram of frozen confection for sale should not contain more than 50,000 bacteria.  The maximum penalty for sale of frozen confections with over limit bacteria is a fine of $10,000 and three months' imprisonment upon conviction.
