India: Lecithin Permitted in Biscuits

The FSSAI published a legislation amendment, permitting usage of lecithin in biscuits at good manufacturing practice levels (GMP). The amendment is titled “Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2014”, and it is effective from 20 November, 2015.

According to the legislation amendment, the words “GMP” will substitute the previous entry/ symbol  “-“ for lecithin, listed under emulsifying and stabilizing agents (singly or in combination with other additives) in Table 1 (List of food additives for use in bread and biscuits) of Appendix A of Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011.
