INDIA’S FSSAI AMENDS FOOD SAFETY AND STANDARDS -PACKAGING AND LABELLING- REGULATIONS

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced specific amendments to current label regulations, that came into force on 23rd March 2015. Highlights include:
- Addition of more products along with “bread and cakes” under sub-regulation-43 for declaring oligofructose on their labels.
- A new sub-regulation 48 wherein the included products should bear on their labels: plant stanol esters contents along with warnings for patients on cholesterol medication, pregnant and lactating women and to the general public owing to plant stanols.
- A sub-regulation 49 wherein the included products should declare trehalose on their labels.
