Mexican Additives Regulation Amended

New amendments for the “Agreement that determines additives and adjuvants in food, beverages and food supplements, their use and health standards – DOF 16/07/12” were published in the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRIS) website on August 18 and September 5, 2016. The additions listed below of new substances and/or functions for existing substances have been approved by the Secretary of Health for use in different foods.

1. annex I – Additives with different functions and a RDI;
2. annex III – Colors with a RDI stablished and;
3. annex VI – Enzymes.

The addition of Annex I lists “Triethyl citrate” as emulsifier, stabilizer, sequestrant and carrier to be used in Food Supplements.

In the Annex III, “Gold”, “Silver” and “Aluminum powder” were added as colors; while in Annex VI, “Glucose oxidase” was added as enzyme.

All the limits permitted for these additives are conditional, depending on the food category in which they are to be used. For details please join our Regdata® database.
