Natamycin Now Allowed in Beverages

A new amendment for the Annex I – Additives with different functions and a DI was published on the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRIS) website on May 30, 2016.

The amendment list the Piramicin (Natamycin), a preservative approved by the Secretary of Health, to be use in the food categories listed below:

  • Nonalcoholic flavored beverages.
  • Manufactured concentrations for nonalcoholic flavored beverages
  • Syrups and concentrations for nonalcoholic flavored beverages
  • Powder to prepare nonalcoholic flavored beverages
  • Juices and nectars.
