On September 10, 2015, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States announced that they are extending the comment period for the proposed Nutrition Label changes until October 13, 2015. This follows up to our recent article in which we explained in detail the changes proposed by the FDA.
The FDA allowed some more time for taking comments on the supplemental proposed rule and the consumer studies, after a request made by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) for the raw data from the four consumer studies. The GMA argues that access to raw data “will allow GMA and member companies to review the studies in depth and develop substantive comments”. FDA replies that the data will be provided to anyone who submits a request to ConsumerStudiesBranch@fda.hhs.gov.
The whole documents folder can be found under the Docket ID: FDA-2012-N-1210 and the comment period has now been extended to October 13, 2015.
