Vietnam Food Administration Amends Food Additives Legislation

Vietnam’s apex food regulatory authority has published on its website an amendment circular to an earlier circular 27/ 2012/ TT-BYT (dated November 30, 2012) regarding management of food additives. The new circular has been titled 8/2015 / TT-BYT and will become effective from July 01, 2015.

The following are few of the changes that will take effective with the amended circular:

  1. Addition of 7 substances of various functionalities to annexure 1. These include:

    Vegetable carbon, red cabbage color (colors); Succinic acid, potassium hydrogen sulphate (acidity regulators); DL-alanine, Glycine (flavor enhancers) and Glycyrrhizin (flavor enhancer, sweetener).

  2. Amendment of limits of additives listed in annexure 2, applicable to specific codes of food categories.  Explanatory notes and food categorization system details have also been included with the below additives:
