China and USA Trade Relations Strained; Impacts USA Imports to China

On April 2, 2018, China State Council announced that, “China suspends the tariff reduction notice on a range of American imported products” in response to the US tariff decision on China imported steel and aluminium.

This affects:
  • 120 American imported fruits and fruit products, suspending current tariff reduction policy and increasing the tariff by 15%.
  • Eight American imported pork and pork products, increasing the tariff by 25%.

This decision was implemented on April 2, 2018.

On April 4, 2018, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced a No. 34 notice on tariff increase on some American imported products, in response to the US 301 Investigation on Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property. 106 items including agricultural products, automobiles, chemicals, and airplanes will be affected by the 25% tariff increase. The notice does not yet have an implementation date.
