FSANZ Issues Regulatory Standards on Infant Formula Products

On April 19, 2021, the Federal Register Legislation published regulatory standards on “Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code – Standard 2.9.1 – Infant formula products”. The standard has been amended by omitting and substituting section 2.9.1— 7 ‘Restriction on addition to infant formula product of inulin-type fructans and galacto-oligosaccharides'.

The scientific document regulates various types of infant formula products by dealing with preliminary matters. Moreover it includes the following information:

  • General compositional requirements for infant formula products.
  • Compositional requirements for infant formula and follow-on formula and for special dietary use.
  • Labelling and packaging requirements for infant formula products.
  • Guidelines for infant formula products are set out in section S29-10.

The standard 2.9.1 is effective from 26 March 2021.
