On March 16th, 2022, the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has assessed a scientific document to amend the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) to permit the “Use of Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) as a processing aid”.
The scope of the document is the following:
- Use of the additive CPC for the antimicrobial treatment of raw poultry with skin;
- The maximum permitted level of CPC in poultry skin of 13.4 mg per kg is based on the highest concentration of CPC used in the risk assessment;
- The request is subjected to the conditions that the concentration of CPC in the aqueous wash solution used does not exceed 1% (w/v);
- Raw poultry meat is rinsed in potable water after treatment with CPC;
- Indicates no health and safety concerns associated with its use as a processing aid.
The public consultation period is valid until April 13th, 2022.
