India Publishes New Food Labelling Rules regarding Advertising, Claims and Packaging

On June 28, 2019, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued two new entires on food labelling:

  • “Direction under Section 16 (5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 dated 28th June 2019 regarding operationalization of Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Amendment Regulations, 2019“: main changes are related to Reduction of disease risk claims, brand name related to “natural”, “fresh”, “pure” naming and equivalence claims.
  • “Direction under Section 16 (5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 dated 28th June 2019 regarding operationalization of Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Amendment Regulations, 2019 related to labelling requirements for Blended Edible Vegetables Oils“, especially related to the indication of name and nature of the edible vegetable oil produced.

Changes have immediate effect.
