On March 11, 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan released the "Annual Plan for Surveillance and Monitoring of Hazardous Chemicals and Harmful Microorganisms concerning Food Safety in FY2019."

The aim of the investigation is to obtain essential data to manage risks related to food safety in order to:

  • Extend knowledge regarding the contamination of food, feed, agricultural and livestock products with harmful chemicals and microorganisms;
  • Be aware of the harmful concentration of a risk factor, in case an unexpected hazard in food safety becomes apparent.
