Japan Partially Amends Specification and Standards for Food and Food Additives

JapanOn August 10th, 2022, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare - MHLW of Japan published the “Partial Amendment of Specifications and Standards for Foods, Food additives, etc. (MHLW Notification No. 248 of 2022)” in accordance with the provisions of Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Law (Law No. 233 of 1947).

The document proposes to include the following:

 

  • Amendments regarding multiple substances to be regulated on food commodities;
  • Restrictions are applied for the various substances such as Spinosad, Sulfoxaflor, Pyraflufen-ethyl, Pyrantel, Morantel etc.;
  • The changes affect the limits on various fruits, vegetables, and spices commodities.

The regulation is effective August 12, 2022.
