New US Directive on Label Verification Upon Food Products Import

On January 24, 2019, the Food Safety And Inspection Service (FSIS) under the United States Department of Agriculture published the new “FSIS Directive 9900.5 Label Verification of Imported Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products.“

The aim of the document is to ensure that imported meat, poultry and egg products meet FSIS labelling or marking requirements.

All establishments exporting such goods in the United States must refer to regulations reported in Title 9 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Inspection program personnel (IPP) are dedicated to the verification of the FSIS directives and follow verification procedures reported in the above-mentioned document.
