Singapore Publishes Maximum Residues Limits for Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Food

On January 07th, 2022, the Singapore Food Agency issued a trade circular to all food business operators to comply with the regulation on “Maximum Residues Limits for Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Food”.

 

The document highlights the following key points for consideration:

  • The agency has reviewed and established additional maximum residue limits (MRLs) for veterinary drug residues in food;
  • The risk assessments ensure safe consumption of food containing veterinary drug residues at levels below the new established MRLs;
  • The proposed MRLs are trade facilitative and are in line with the relevant Codex standards;
  • Veterinary drug 5-Hydroflunixin in Cattle Milk, the previous MRL of 50 ppb applies until January 16th, 2022; with effect from January 17th, 2022, the MRL 40 ppb will be applied;
  • New MRLs would be administered for the specified veterinary drugs in food commodities with effect from January 17th, 2022;
  • All traders must comply with new MRLs with immediate effect from the aforementioned date.

The regulation is effective January 17th, 2022.
