On October 7, 2020, the Food and Drug Administration of Taiwan published a draft regulation “Use of Aloe vera as Ingredient in Food”.
The Central Authority limits the use of raw ingredient in manufacturing, processing, consumption and other applications. For the effective and rationale management of food for use, a revised draft regulation has been proposed on the labelling requirements for the packaging material “Restrictions and marking requirements for the use of Aloe vera, food raw materials”
The scope of the draft outlines three main focal points:
- Only completely peeled leaves of “Aloe vera” and “Aloe ferox” can be processed into food ingredients.
- Aloin content must not exceed 10 parts per million (ppm)
- Packaging material must clearly indicate warning instructions- “Not recommended for menstrual women, pregnant women, lactating women, children, patients with digestive or liver and kidney diseases”.
The draft provisions shall come into effect on January 01, 2022.
