Taiwan: Use Restrictions and Labeling Requirements for Senna

FDA Health Food Labeling Taiwan

On Jan. 9, 2018, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) Released the regulation governing “Use Restrictions and Labeling Requirements of Senna."  This new regulation shall come into effect on July 1, 2018.

The restrictions for Senna are as follows:

  1. The use of this product is fresh or directly dried leaves and pods, other processing method like extraction is forbidden.
  2. The use of this product is limited to tea bags for brewing drinks.
  3. Sennosides content in products is restricted to 12mg per day consumption.

The product shall label in outer packaging the below information:

  1. Sennosides content
  2. Warning message. For example, "This product may cause diarrhea", “Not suitable for lactating women, children under the age of 10, etc.”
