On December 30, 2019, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has notified the availability of the guidance Labeling Guideline on Statements That Bioengineered or Genetically-Modified Ingredients or Animal Feed Were Not Used in Meat, Poultry, or Egg Products.”

Companies that create label or labeling claims on absence of bioengineered or genetically-modified (GM) ingredients in a meat, poultry or egg product, or feed livestock without bioengineered or GM products , should refer to this guidance. These claims are defined as “negative claims“ and are approved for use and verified under a third party certifying organization.”
