On July 20th, 2022, the U.S Federal Register published an article by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency on “Spiropidion; Pesticide Tolerances, 40 CFR 180.723, 87 FR 43214”.
The document summarizes the following:
- The regulation establishes tolerances for residues of Spiropidion and its metabolites and degradates in or on multiple commodities;
- The regulation amends tolerances for residues of Benoxacor in or on cucumber, muskmelon, tomato, animal meat, and meat by-products, etc.;
- Pesticide tolerances were set on cucumber at 0.8 ppm; muskmelon at 0.9 ppm; tomato at 0.8 ppm; watermelon at 0.9 ppm; cattle, fat at 0.03 ppm; cattle, meat byproducts at 0.3 ppm, etc.;
- Risk assessment data ensures that the safety of infants and the general population is adequately protected;
- Short‐term, intermediate-term, and chronic exposures of the residues resulting from the tolerance on these food products are unlikely to pose a health risk to consumers.
The regulation is effective July 20th, 2022.
