User-Defined Forms (UDFs) are the data-entry forms that can be extended based on customer needs using the corresponding Devex PLM application program interface.

Supplier Corrective Action Request

A Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) is a formal request of corrective action to a supplier for a problem related to the quality of its product/service provided to an organization. The supplier is asked to correct a problem and explain how exactly they will do so. SCAR is used in the context of quality management processes.

Quantitative Ingredient Declaration

QUID stands for Quantitative Ingredient Declaration. In certain circumstances it is necessary to state on the label the quantity, in percentage terms, of an ingredient or category of ingredients used in the manufacture or preparation of a foodstuff. The percentage quantity should be in or next to the name of the food or be in the list of ingredients. It applies to all foods, including beverages, with more than one ingredient unless especially exempt. It also applies to those products exempt from ingredients listing. For these products the ingredient quantity will need to be given close to the name of the product.

Nutrition Fact Panel

The Nutrition Fact Panel is a label required on most packaged food in many countries that provides detailed information about a food's nutrient content, such as the amount of fat, sugar, sodium and fiber it has.

Mixture in Mixture

Provided by a supplier, the manufacturer uses a Mixture in Mixture (MiM) is to formulate its own mixtures. They are also used as components in other mixtures. The supplier indirectly provides the mixture composition via Unique Formula Identifier (UFI) code, or via the safety data sheet (SDS).

International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry is the world authority on chemical nomenclature and terminology, including the naming of new elements in the periodic table, on standardized methods for measurement; and on atomic weights, and many other critically-evaluated data.

International Uniform Chemical Information Database

IUCLID is a software used to record, store, maintain, and exchange data on intrinsic and hazard properties of chemical substances. The European Chemical Agency co-develops the software with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

ISO 9001

ISO 9001 is an international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Dangerous Substance Repository

Dangerous substances repository refers to Selerant's substances database, i.e. the regulatory data/information provided for substances.

Codex Alimentarius

The collection of food standards and related texts adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission is known as the Codex Alimentarius. The term "Codex Alimentarius" is Latin and means "food code.” Codex standards are international food texts, i.e. standards, codes of practice, codes of hygienic practice, guidelines and other recommendations, established to protect the health of the consumers and to ensure fair practices in the food trade.

Certificate of Analysis

COA stands for Certificate of Analysis, which takes place during the quality management process. COAs are documents issued by the Quality Assurance team that confirm a regulated product meets its product specification. COAs commonly contain the actual results obtained from testing performed as a part of the quality control that takes place for an individual or batch of products.

A Bill of Materials, BOM, is a comprehensive inventory of the raw materials, assemblies, sub-assemblies, parts and components, as well as the quantities of each, needed to manufacture a product.

Advanced Recipe Development

Advanced Recipe Development is a Devex PLM module that fulfills customer requirements around compliance assessment and label generation of specific versions of a product and full history of the versioning and superseding activities around the product. The ADR module supports in the creation of the full and comprehensive recipe structures in accordance with the international ISA-88 standard and in order to design a standard data structure to simplify the recipe development process.

Critical Control Point

A Critical Control Point, CCP, is a step in the food production process where preventative measures can be applied to prevent, reduce or eliminate a food safety hazard, such as bacterial growth or chemical contamination. Critical control points exist at every stage of the process, from purchasing ingredients to the moment the product is consumed.

Unique Formula Identifier

Unique Formula Identifier, UFI, is the EU-specific code that identifies a chemical formula by linking it to a specific poison center notification. This allows for a faster and more reliable action in case of a medical emergency involving the chemical product itself.

Safety Data Sheet

A Safety Data Sheet, (SDS), is a document comprised of 16 sections and describes the properties and generic contents of a chemical product, as well as its hazards. It includes information such as the properties of each chemical; the physical, health, and environmental health hazards; protective measures; and safety precautions for handling, storing, and transporting the chemical. Chemical manufacturer, distributor, or importer are required to provide SDS for each hazardous chemical to downstream users to communicate information on these hazards.

Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals

Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is an EU regulation that includes, among other things, rules concerning Safety Data Sheets redaction in the EU as well as data such as the list of restrictions in Annex XVII (REACH Restricted Substance list).

Prosisoft

1. Since January 2017, Prosisoft is a company of Selerant Srl in Germany. In the meantime, Prosisoft GmbH changed its name to Selerant GmbH.

Poison Center Notification, PCN, is the Devex PLM functionality that structures data of potentially toxic substances and transfers it to the appropriate authority (may differ depending on country).

Material Safety Data Sheet

A Material Safety Data Sheet, MSDS, is a document that contains information on the potential hazards (health, fire, reactivity and environmental) and how to work safely with the chemical product. MSDS is an older version of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) format, which is internationally standardized. The SDS includes information such as the properties of each chemical; the physical, health, and environmental health hazards; protective measures; and safety precautions for handling, storing, and transporting the chemical. The information contained in the SDS is largely the same as the MSDS, except the SDSs are required to be presented in a consistent user-friendly, 16-section format.

Global Harmonized System is a standard developed by the United Nations, used by countries as a foundation to implement their own regulations concerning hazard classification of chemicals and the related SDS.

Devex Chemicals Baseline offers easy-to-install and easy-to-use bundles of pre-configured product data, workflows and templates for physical and microbiological attributes. All material and specification templates can be created and modified on the fly to every product’s exact specification. This software includes multiple business process workflows, status management options for the promotion and approval of materials, as well as documentation and report options.

Classification, Labeling and Packaging

Classification, Labeling and Packaging, CLP, is the EU Regulation concerning the classification, labeling and packaging of chemicals.

Adaptation of Technical Progress

Adaptation of Technical Progress, ATP, are the updates to the CLP Regulation (EU Regulation concerning the classification, labeling and packaging of chemicals). They usually update information such as the harmonized classification of substances or their names, but in specific cases they update the calculation rules of the CLP regulation itself. These latter CLPs are usually the most impactful.

European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road

European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road, ADR, is the European agreement concerning the international transport of dangerous goods by road. This regulation provides information such as classification of dangerous substances with reference to road transport, determination and classification of individual substances as dangerous, packing conditions of the goods and characteristics of packaging and containers.

Sustainable Product is a product that provides environmental, social, and economic benefits on a global level, over its entire life cycle. Examples of benefits:

• Environmental: reduced energy and water consumption, minimized CO2 emission, prevention of deforestation, wise land use

Scenario Type

Scenario Type is a user-defined collection of settings that allows the system to conduct the product Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) specifically tailored to a company’s needs. With Ecodex Sustainable Design Scenario Types, a user can create as many variations of an Eco-Design Scenario as he or she wishes, to reflect the specific needs of each individual product researched, developed and manufactured.

Packaging Material Profile

Packaging Material Profile is a user-defined collection of Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) profiles for a packaging material component. These LCI profiles are used throughout various stages of the packaging material component’s Life Cycle Assessment.

Life Cycle Impact Assessment

Life Cycle Impact Assessment is a phase of a Life Cycle Assessment consisting of an evaluation of potential human health and environmental impacts of the environmental resources and releases identified during the Life Cycle Inventory (LCI).

LCI Profiles

Life Cycle Inventory Profiles: a list of peer-reviewed standard processes created by specialized organizations and imported from external databases such as Ecoinvent in Switzerland and Agrifootprint in Netherlands. Each LCI profile represents one activity and consists of at least one reference product, its meta data and a list of all relevant elementary exchanges “from” and “to” the environment.

Life Cycle Inventory

Life Cycle Inventory, LCI, is a compilation and numerical quantification of inventory flows from and to nature for a given product throughout its entire lifecycle. Inventory flows include - but are not limited to- inputs of water, energy and raw materials and releases to air, land, and water.

Life Cycle Assessment

Life Cycle Assessment, LCA, is a technique aimed at understanding and evaluating the magnitude and significance of a potential environmental impact of a product throughout its entire lifecycle, from cradle to grave (i.e. from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, packaging, distribution and storage, consumer use, disposal and recycling). The LCA is a phased approach that consists of several components, which include but are not limited to:

International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients

INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. INCI names are used in the United States, the European Union, China, Japan, and many other countries for listing ingredients on cosmetic product labels. With few exceptions, the INCI labeling names in all countries are the same. At the moment, there are more than 16000 ingredients in INCI list, which is the most comprehensive listing of ingredients used in cosmetic and personal care products. The INCI system was established in the early 1970’s by the Personal Care Products Council (former CTFA, Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association) and the list is maintained by the Personal Care Products Council.
